Back in 2018 we celebrated 60 years of educating and of transforming the lives of the young men in our community at Birrong Boys High School. As we approach our 70th anniversary we take great pride in maintaining our traditional values of respect, trust, dignity, friendship and service. We are proud of the manner in which the qualities of determination, tenacity and perseverance are at the essence of our identity. We now have the opportunity to access our amazing new facilities to further support our students.
Our school has recently undergone a massive transformation. Our students and staff now have access to the most up to date facilities of any NSW public school setting. Our greatest beneficiaries have been students and staff within our TAS faculty whereby new wood and metal work facilities include workshops with welding bays, 3D printers, laser systems technology etc. In terms of our Food Technology, our new kitchen facilities an industry standard kitchen, a commercial kitchen including equipment which allows students to study Hospitality and gain experience in the use of the most modern technology specific to this industry.
New science laboratories provide full access to the full range of science courses for all of our students which will add to their ongoing capacity to succeed in biology, physics and chemistry course within the higher school certificate.
Our fitness studio will enhance the efforts of our PE faculty in delivering a range of sporting, health and fitness opportunities for our students and continue our strong tradition in this area of school life.
I am so proud of our school community for their resilience and flexibility throughout the construction.
Our school acknowledges the inextricable link between student wellbeing and academic success. Our wellbeing team contextualises programs to meet the identified and emerging needs of all students; individuals, groups and cohorts. In 2024 our Father/Son Project saw more than a hundred fathers in attendance at our project launch in support of their son and provided the opportunity for discussion around key concepts relating the parenthood, raising teens and adolescence. Our Year 6-7 Transition Team is dynamic in its approach and has develop excellent practices which has significantly reduced rates of anxiety for both parent and child around the entry to high school and has improved rates of student engagement identifiable in a number of data sources. Our Careers and Transition Team (CAT) works to ensure all students exit our school with a distinct pathway for future success. Across a ten year time frame 87.7% of our graduating students shave gained entry to the University course of their choice.
At the core of our success is our unwavering commitment to Boys’ education. Our experienced staff use a consistent model of educational delivery focused on explicit teaching with an understanding of the impact of collective efficacy.
We understand our role in the lives of our students. We work closely with our families to ensure, across the 7-12 timeframe, we develop outstanding young citizens equipped with a range of skills, knowledge and ability to ensure success in the future and to positively contribute to ensure the brightest of futures for our society.
